Everything is fine: Myers and Voit are back, BoMel is gone (for a while)
Lots of stuff going on with the Padres, and for one night, it worked out.
With apologies to Trent Grisham, who I was going to write about today, there’s too much other stuff going on that I need to address. This is going to be a newsy one.
First, let me say (for those that went to bed early) that the Padres beat the Cubs 5-4 last night. It secured a winning homestand and puts them in a position to win the series this afternoon. So far this season, the only series they’ve lost have been to the Giants and Dodgers.
Also, the Padres’ ability to bounce back after a loss seems quite useful. They’ve yet to lose more than two games in a row, and more often than not they’ve followed a loss with a couple of wins.
Mike Clevinger was fine in his second start back from Tommy John, going 4.1 innings and giving up 2 ER while striking out 6. He threw 91 pitches and was not his sharpest self, but it was another encouraging step towards getting back to the player he was before the surgery.
The team did not sit around waiting for a home run, but instead made lots of contact against Wade Miley and most of the guys that came out of the Cubs bullpen. It was a team effort win, which was great to see after the news from earlier in the day…
