Padres tie up NLDS with epic road win over the Dodgers
The San Diego Padres tied up the NLDS with a 5-3 win over the Dodgers in Los Angeles. Here are the guys that made the win possible.
Apologies in advance, this one is going to be on the short end today because work is going to get in the way, but I couldn’t not write about last night’s game. That was one of the most epic and enjoyable games of baseball I have ever watched as a Padres fan.
You can listen to my post-game thoughts here, if you haven’t heard them already.
Here are some of the key players I wanted to spotlight coming out of that game. Tomorrow, we’ll discuss the playoff home games at Petco Park and what they mean.
Robert Suarez
The man of the hour. I’m pretty sure the last time he gave up an earned run was in August, and today is October 13th. Quite a rookie season.
He was called upon to pitch in an almost impossible position last night. On the road, in the playoffs, on a national stage, and facing against the best offense in all of baseball. Oh, also, there were men on 1st & 3rd with zero outs. He needed to do his best to keep them off the board.
Not only did Suarez get a strikeout and a double-play (nice arm there, Kim!) to escape that impossible situation without giving up a run, he came back the next inning and shut down the Dodgers for three more outs just for fun.
He was, quite simply, the best pitcher in the game last night. A game that probably involved two, if not three, future members of the Baseball Hall of Fame from the pitcher spot. I don’t think we’ll forget about that game from him for a long time.
